The information that has only now been revealed to the public and confirmed by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi dates back to 2016. To try to minimize the problem, the Chief Security Officer and another member of his team have been dismissed.

According to the obtained information, the stolen data included names, email addresses and telephone numbers of 50 million customers, as well as the driving license number of 7 million drivers worldwide.

At the time of the attack Uber was being investigated on privacy issues and this was one of the reasons why those responsible decided to hide the case and make a payment of 100 thousand dollars to the hackers so that the stolen data would be permanently deleted, thus avoiding major problems for the company.
